ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The one hundred and fifty poems from the book of psalms form the basis of the choral prayer that has given rhythm to the daily life of countless religious communities since the Middle Ages. Hendrik Vanden Abeele and Psallentes start this Tidal Day with the lauds, which, together with the vespers, form the backbone of the office.
At the heart of Tidal Day is the Messe de Tournai . This anonymous fourteenth-century three-part mass is one of the earliest polyphonic settings of the immutable parts of the mass: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and Ite missa est. In addition to traditional musical lines, this mass contains contemporary and even progressive elements.
