The completely impoverished residents of the backwater town of Gullen are preparing to meet the daughter of a local mason, now a billionaire Clara Tsakhanassian. Will she not be touched by the sight of their wretchedness and throw some money to her hometown?
And then the Lady herself appears with a strange retinue, a leopard in a cage and… an empty coffin. She is ready to gift Gullen more generously than these poor fellows could ever dream of. The Gullens will receive a billion on the condition that one of them kills the shopkeeper Alfred Ill, who in the distant past was her first love, but betrayed and slandered his “red-haired witch”. The monstrous condition, initially rejected with anger, is eventually fulfilled…
Sergei Cortez (Belarusian: Сярге́й Альбе́ртавіч Картэ́с, Russian: Серге́й Альбе́ртович Корте́с; 18 February 1935 – 26 June 2016) was a Belarusian composer.
Cortez was born in San Antonio, Chile. He lived for most of his early life in Argentina, and emigrated with his parents to Minsk in the Byelorussian SSR in 1955 at the age of 20.
