About “The Foster Story”
“The Foster Story” is not a faithful retelling of Stephen Foster’s life. It depicts his pure thoughts through his relationships with the people around him.
In creating this story, there is one phrase I would like to draw your attention to. It is the words “Dear friends and gentle hearts” found in a small note in Foster’s pocket when he died. This is thought to be the title of a new piece he was preparing to compose, and it is a beautiful phrase that beautifully evokes the essence of Foster’s music and the person he was.
Foster’s warm feelings for the people he came into contact with, whether they were white or black. Foster’s rich heart gave birth to many beautiful melodies. I hope that you will be able to experience this through this opera.
