In our hyper-technological and advanced West, magical and fanatical thinking is making a comeback. The characteristics of this thinking are the stadium and social network attitude (for which you have to line up here or there in a clear and possibly even aggressive way), as well as distrust and the inability to rely on research and the scientific method . A wave of irrationality that feeds on and grows in the belief that one’s expectations have been “betrayed”. Distrust of science is a consequence. The show does not want to be a response to the last minute deniers: the “flat earth” is the pretext to address the theme of the community, its growth and its nourishment. The figure of Eratosthenes in this vision is exemplary. Beyond the measure of the earth, of the inclination of the ecliptic and the terrestrial meridian, the table of prime numbers, Eratosthenes is not only a great mathematician or a great physicist, but he is also a great philosopher who has an organic conception of the universe. In contrast to Plato, Eratosthenes affirms that men should not be divided between barbarians and Greeks, but according to their qualities, since there are not only bad Greeks but “barbarians” of high civilization. One of the most versatile intellectuals of his time, a typical scholar of the Hellenistic age, with multiple interests, author of works on philology and literary criticism, astronomy and mathematics, chronology and geography, close collaborator of Archimedes.
