ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Tragédie en musique, which treats the history of Szkülla and Glaucos, is Jean-Marie Leclair’s only surviving full-length opera. The sophistication of vocal vocals surprised many as early as its age, given that Leclair was considered an essentially instrumental author: by the time this musical stage work was presented in 1746, he had recorded a violin sonata in forty-eight, as well as a number of trios and concerts. His musical training took place in Italy, and his stage work cannot deny this either. In fact, the opera faithfully follows the traditional form of tragédie en musique developed by Jean-Baptiste Lully in the 18th century, and in music we can stumble upon Italian style features step by step.
