Act 1 (00:03:59):
In the middle of the woods, on a meadow by the lake, the forest wagtails dance and make love to the waterfowl.
An unhappy Rusalka sits on the shore.
She tells the waterman that she loves the prince who comes here to bathe,
but as a fairy he cannot see her. She wants to have a human form and a human soul so she can get close to him.
Waterman warns her of a fateful decision, but Rusalka ignores it and goes to Ježibaba,
which is supposed to turn her into a human.
The hag promises, but has conditions:
Rusalka must leave her her water dress and also her voice.
She remains mute for the prince. If the prince leaves her, she must return to the lake.
But he must not live with his ex-partners, like a maze he will lure people into the depths.
Rusalka agrees, filled with faith in the constancy of human love.
When the prince comes to the lake again, he appears to him in human form.
The prince falls in love with Rusalka, and although she is mute, he takes her to the castle.
Act 2 (00:42:18):
The castle celebration begins with a dance in the garden.
At the castle, everyone avoids Rusalka.
The prince has announced his marriage to Rusalka, and among the guests is a beautiful and fiery foreign princess who seduces the prince.
Dumb and helpless, Rusalka sees his love disappear.
From the castle pond, the waterman observes Rusalka’s despair.
When the prince attends to the princess, Rusalka runs to the waterman.
She sees the prince openly courting the princess and tries to make him remember her one last time, but the prince rejects her. Waterman curses him and drags Rusalka to him in the pond.
The terrified prince begs the princess for help, but she leaves him.
Act 3 (01:00:02):
Prince was affected by the waterman’s curse and confusion broke out in the castle due to his illness.
Kuchtík and the huntsman come to Ježíbaba for medicine, but the waterman drives them away.
The forest cloths dance and sing, similar to the beginning.
The prince had no room at the castle and went to look for the missing bride in the forest.
He comes to the lake and recognizes her in the maze.
Rusalka warns him not to hug her, but the prince does not pay attention.
Rusalka finally kills the prince with her kiss, but begs God to spare his soul.
