ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

This is the official wording of the video commissioned from Arruga by the Teatro alla Scala for the exhibition on the first 10 years of Riccardo Muti Music Director of La Scala. It is a document that is no longer in circulation, as it is partial to the Maestro’s relationship with La Scala, also referred to for some historical phrases and images in subsequent documents. The Arruga Archive thanks the Theater for having allowed it to be republished, because it considers it a rare document of a climate of vitality and ongoing construction, of harmonious harmony of many voices of the Theatre, artists and technicians, who appear in the single interview with their specificity of work and the freedom of a character proud of his responsibility, even if it is tiring, and of belonging to a project, to an ongoing research that La Scala is carrying out with the Maestro who is guiding it. 22 brief punctual interviews, at work, where the relationship with Muti is not laudatory, but observed, understood, respected in the rigor of keeping 300 people silent or of expressing Violetta’s internal cry in a clarinet phrase. 22 different functions that give the impression of representing all the voices, the space, the light of the theatre.
The 7 paths intertwine musical choices and active participation.
MOZART: the Trilogy became in those years close listening, with performances that remained exemplary and preparation elbowed on the word as in the initial background of Muti who guides Kathleen Battle to read Susanna.
LEARN: the preparation that comes from the trials. They look for each other, they discover new ways of photographing, understanding the conductor’s gesture and entering into carburetion with him for the Orchestra, deepening the intensity of a pause or an accelerando for the singers.
WAGNER: Muti’s Wagnerian thread. Myth, humanity, enlightenment.
WORK: the executive, fascinating description of the models for the imposing ride of the Walkyries on the expanse of red poppies. The prompter Dante Mazzola. The assistant director, Lorenza Cantini, who resumes and brings the shows back to life. Superintendent Carlo Fontana.
CLASSICITY: a foundation and a destination to reach.
VERDI: A main road.
APPLAUSE: from the curtain man Giuseppe Serafino who accompanies the success of the artists to a review of the great personalities of the world in the Maestro’s dressing room.
58 minutes, thick, allow us to look at that magical decade, and look at it from our present, today.
The Arruga Archive remains available to those who have rights to reproduce the videos, which in any case take place on a non-profit basis and only for informational purposes.
