ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The cantata is written for a mixed choir, soloists (mezzo-soprano, tenor), symphony orchestra and children’s choir (in the video recording the children’s choir is replaced by the soloist of the choir), directed against war! manifestations of any violence based on nationality, against fascist ideology, against terrorism in the name of love for God and humanity, in the name of the future of our children!
Humanity is mired in wars, terrorism, cruelty and violence. Only repentance, tolerance, love for one’s neighbor can make the Earth more beautiful. And it does not matter what language you speak, what religion you profess, good thoughts and deeds of all people of the world, all nations and peoples of our Earth will lead to mutual understanding, to prosperity and well-being. And therefore the concept of the Cantata – mystery “Atonement by prayer” is connected with the idea of repentance for the sins committed, for excessive pride, with the idea of tolerance and love for one’s neighbor, love for the Creator in the name of creativity, creation, in the name of a happy life. After the Introduction follows Part 1 – Catholic prayer – “Christe eleison”. Part 2 – Soprano solo – Orthodox prayer “The soul will cry, will yearn …” (folk theme, orchestrated with love – by the author of the Cantata). Part 3 – Tenor solo – Muslim prayer. Part 4 – sarcastic, against violence and war “Do not walk, boys, on someone else’s blood” to the words of Yunna Moritz. Part 5 – the final chorus “Lord have mercy” – this is repentance. (Parts 1, 3, 5 – canonical words). Then follows the Conclusion, in which the speaker’s voice (?) sounds against the background of the timpani – with the words that are central to the Cantata: “The Lord is one, but there are many blacklists (i.e. in the modern understanding – lists of “infidel religions”), the outcast of God – that is what is always in them!” (lines from the poems of Yunna Moritz). Then follows the solo and the chorus with an appeal to the Angel to bring prayers to the Lord.
