ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Quote from OperaVision:
Vuyisa Xipu is in his third year of undergraduate studies at the University of Cape Town under the guidance of Paulina Malefane. He was born and raised in Cape Town in a township called Gugulethu. In 2019 he sang in the choir of I Capuleti e i Montecchi. He recently appeared as a soloist in Marry Me a Little. He sings regularly with the Mzansi Tenors, who competed in the Rand Merchant Bank Starlight Classics competition this year.
With Operatunity, OperaVision presents a new four-part series focusing on the genuine, personal stories of young opera artists from different parts of South Africa. In collaboration with OperaVision partner Opera for Peace, the series addresses the real-life issues facing young artists preparing for opera performances around the world.
Operatunity is the project of Xolane Marman, an emerging artist and director from Cape Town. He accompanies four singers on their way through training, rehearsals and first roles. We get personal insights into life off the stage and the challenges faced by those hailing from the townships of South Africa. The series ends with a final gala performance where all artists featured in the series meet and sing together for the first time.
