ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Quote from OperaVision:
Born in Botshabelo, Free State, soprano Setsoane Jeannette Ntseki is a freshman at the University of Cape Town’s South African College of Music. She has sung the roles of Almirena (2019) and Poppea (2021) in the Opera School’s Kaleidoscope opera scenes. Setsoane took 3rd and 2nd place respectively in the Schock singing competition in 2021 and 2022 and 3rd place in the Aviva Pelham Operetta Competition in 2022. In October 2022 she performed with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra at Artscape in Cape Town.
With Operatunity, OperaVision presents a new four-part series focusing on the genuine, personal stories of young opera artists from different parts of South Africa. In collaboration with OperaVision partner Opera for Peace, the series addresses the real-life issues facing young artists preparing for opera performances around the world.
Operatunity is the project of Xolane Marman, an emerging artist and director from Cape Town. He accompanies four singers on their way through training, rehearsals and first roles. We get personal insights into life off the stage and the challenges faced by those hailing from the townships of South Africa. The series ends with a final gala performance where all artists featured in the series meet and sing together for the first time.
