ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Don’t miss the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the musical world of Galicia of the 19th century together with the team of the Organ Hall, who reconstructed Sydor Vorobkevich’s music for the music play “Olha”. Ivan Franko called Sydir Vorobkevych one of the “first larks of the new spring of Ukrainian national revival.” Poems and songs belong to his pen. Vorobkevych actively cooperated with the theater of Ruska Besida society in Lviv. The opera “Olha” based on the drama by Andrii Yablonovsky was written specifically for this theater. We managed to find the manuscript of the work in the archives and gave it a new life. This music has been waiting to be performed on stage for over a century and a half!

Sydir (Isidor) Vorobkevych – Ukrainian composer of the 19th century, priest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, poet and public figure. Ivan Franko called Vorobkevich one of the “first larks of the new spring of our national revival.” The song “Native language, native word” is one of the most famous works of Vorobkevich, which is studied at school. However, the composer’s musical legacy is almost unheard today. Vorobkevych actively cooperated with the theater of the “Ruska besida” society in Lviv, for which he wrote music for plays, which were then called “operas”. The opera “Olga” based on the drama of Andriy (Anton) Yablonovsky was written specifically for this theater. There is information that the premiere of the opera took place in 1869 in Przemyśl, and in 1877 “Olga” was performed on the stage of the “Russian Conversation” theater in Lviv.

The manuscript of the score of “Olga” was found by the director of the Organ Hall and conductor Ivan Ostapovich in the archive of the Lysenko Lviv National Academy of Music.
