ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
“O Vaptistikos” (The Godson) by Th. Sakellaridis, the most popular Greek operetta, has been loved by many generations of Greeks for its exquisite music as well as for its hilarious plot. After the great success of “Idomeneo” by W.A. Mozart, George Petrou directs again in Olympia and conducts the Symphonic Orchestra and the Chorus of the City of Athens. On stage with him, a cast of distinguished operea singers and actors bring the masterpiece written by Sakellaridis to life, in an all-time-classic production combining contemporary esthetics and Art deco elements of the Greek Belle Epoque. “The Godson”, an opera which according to its composer himself “gives a scent of Greece”, is being presented in the authentic version of its historical debut of 1918, orchestrated by the composer himself, being brought near the sounds of J. Offenbach, F. Lehar, and J. Strauss II.
Waltzes, polkas, tangos, mazurkas and favourite tracks with a Greek scent are combined into a colourful musical world which undoubtfully is one of the greatest works of modern Greek culture.
