ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
The work “Nine Steps to the Transfiguration” is a free arrangement of the canonical mass, on which the composer worked for several decades. The premiere took place in 2018.
The grandiose musical canvas consists of 9 parts and three interludes.
“Many years ago, back in Solaris, I felt the measure and hid the springs of combining a symphony orchestra, choir, and electronic music. I can no longer think differently. Today the world of music is endless. Symphonic music alone is not enough for me,” says the maestro.
According to musicians and critics, “Nine Steps to Transformation” is an absolute masterpiece by Eduard Artemyev, in which the composer conveyed the pain, tears, despair, illusions and hopes of modern man. The composition represents a special “Artemyevskiy” multi-layered multi-style fusion of classical and modern in art, electronic, film and rock music. It is written in Latin and Greek texts and, being, in fact, a free interpretation of the Requiem (Catholic funeral mass), thanks to its artistic conception of the emerging metaphysical picture of the world and its judgment. In the revealed perspective taken by the author – the Transfiguration – several religious and philosophical threads are intertwined – both the mysterious Light of Tabor, and the possibility of a person’s posthumous existence, and general eschatology about the fate of this world. The composer actually approached the veil of secrecy of the international court, expressing thus. secret millions of people. The grandiosity of the idea, the catholicity and universal scale of the images, the complicity in the mystery of metatexts, the emphasis on the expression of the almost struggle of heaven and earth, acquired and demonic forces on the difficult path to transformation – all this gives the “Nine Steps …” obvious features of the Mystery genre.
Deciphering the parts of the work, which helps to hear all its multilayeredness, is in the article of the candidate of art history, a member of the Union of Composers of the Russian Federation:
