The carefree fun lasted three hours with lots of Monnemer Herz, Monnemer Platt and Monnemer Fastelovend.
The plot is quickly told: love, jealousy, reconciliation. At the end Napoleon appears, but it is not the great Bonaparte, but his youngest brother Jerome (Werner Goller), accompanied by a friend (Klaus Fleischer), who arrives in Monheim in a carriage.
Emil Drösser plays the president of the Great Monheim Carnival Society, Wilhelm Gladbach. He loves the innkeeper’s daughter Christine Roth, played by concert pianist Ruth Drechsel-Püster. The two convincingly portrayed how they find each other after trials and tribulations.
And every scene showed the talent of director Leo Decker, head of the Rheinische Operettenbühne. Ruth Drechsel-Püster had asked her old college friend if he would like to direct, and he was enthusiastic about the Monheimers.
“Whether in the Speck Inn or in the old town in front of the Schelmenturm, always with dancing, singing and fun in the joys of life and Monheim beer” – the lyrics of the popular opera melodies from Strauss to Offenbach, excellently rehearsed by the soloists and choirs, were rewritten.
Oliver Drechsel conducted the almost 30-strong professional orchestra with a wink. The melody of “Scheißegal”, the motto song of the “Paniker”, was mixed into the overture.
