ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Three of the greatest masterpieces of twentieth-century theatre music in Siam Sinfonietta’s latest exclusive Banyan Tree concert!
– Voltaire’s witty satire CANDIDE was set to music by Leonard Bernstein and exists both in Broadway and Opera House versions. The Sinfonietta will be playing the energetic and comedic Overture.
– In Richard Strauss’s romantic comic opera “Der Rosenkavalier” a young count pledges undying love to a sophisticated older woman, who tells him that he will soon find someone his own age to love. It happens that very day. We play the suite from the opera which includes the erotically charged prelude, the humorous waltz sequences, and the. bittersweet music from the final trio.
– Stravinsky’s Petrushka, composed for the innovative Ballets Russes, is the story of a puppet clown who falls in love with a ballerina doll. The Sinfonietta will play the entire work, considered a landmark in modern ballet and modern music.
The Siam Sinfonietta’s Banyan Tree concert series is now in its fifth season. The international award-winning young symphony orchestra presents highlights of classical and modern music in an intimate atmosphere. Like the aristocrats of old, enjoy the symphony up close along with Banyan Tree’s fabulous snacks and beverages. Sup on culture while sipping champagne!
