“Naturopera” is an experimental, music-dramatic concept where the idea is to look beyond vocal compartments and genres in order to put the expression and its needs at the center. “Nature” is the glue that unites the venue, singing style, composition and design. A direct consequence of that is that acoustic performance and acoustics become a central part of the exploration. It can be both through small acoustic rooms such as resonance masks or large abandoned places where nature reigns. “Site specific scenes” are explored acoustically and become the platform for the creation of new music, film and performance within the concept of Naturopera.
‘Nature opera’ also because my passion for musical drama always pervades my stage artistic work and because I want to point to something that goes beyond voice compartments and genres. I saw a blind spot in the music-dramatic stage platform that usually consists of musicals or operas and asked myself- what’s in between? There, Naturopera can be a more poetic, experimental and exploratory form of music drama. Vocally, the goal is a free voice used acoustically, a form of singing that utilizes the possibilities and flexibility of the voice in order to start from the expression’s need for the voice. Everything the expression wants is available within Naturopera, be it a kulling, bel canto or belting.
