ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
In 1730 a serious crime event upsets the apparent tranquility of the Conservatory of the Poor of Jesus Christ, which had already been targeted for some time by the powerful Filipino Fathers who even boasted the protection of the Holy Father. The Fathers alleged that the confusion produced by the functioning of the Conservatory bothered them during the hours of their spiritual exercises. In that year, Domenico Lanotte, a young student of the Conservatory, was barbarically murdered by the “Corsori”, the terrible militia of the Archbishop’s Curia, with the complicity of the then rector who, fomented by the Filipinos, decided to stifle by force a discontent from himself provoked by his misgovernment.
