The Tragedy of Salomé, opus 50, is a silent drama in two acts and seven scenes, with music by Florent Schmitt. Its duration is approximately one hour. Robert d’ Humières, after a poem by 1907 composed in
Schmitt produced a symphonic suite in 1910, a concert version for large orchestra, with soprano or oboe voice, the duration of which was reduced by half. He also made a transcription of this version for piano.
The first audition of the mimodrama took place on9 November 1907 at Théâtre des Arts in Paris, the The orchestra was conducted by Désiré-Émile Inghelbrecht.
Role distribution: Loïe Fuller, Salomé ; J. Zorelli, Hérodias, M. Gorde, Hérode, Lou van Such, John the Baptist1. The public and critical reception was favorable.
The symphonic suite for large orchestra was created at Concerts Colonne on 8 January 1911 by Gabriel Pierné4. It is dedicated to Igor Stravinsky. Once again, the public and critics welcomed this reworked work by Schmitt, which even had a greater response than the initial work
