Fiorenzo Carpi de’ Resmini ( Milan , 19 October 1918 – Rome , 21 May 1997 ) was an Italian composer .
Considered the greatest author of incidental music for Italian theatre in the second half of the twentieth century, and one of the greatest at European level, known and appreciated for his numerous film and television soundtracks , and for some songs which have become famous, he wrote the music for the legendary shows of Giorgio Strehler which have entered the history of theatre.
In the mid-1950s, the Teatro alla Scala , through the then artistic director, maestro Victor De Sabata , commissioned the opera La porta divisoria , based on the story The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, with a libretto by Giorgio Strehler. Unfortunately, the score remained unfinished, despite four out of five scenes having been completed. The work occupies a truly important place in Fiorenzo Carpi’s production, both for its demanding operatic form and for the quality of some ingenious and surprising musical and theatrical solutions. Announced several times, and included among the titles of the 1956-1957, 1957-1958, 1970-1971 seasons, the opera was never staged, and the story does not conceal any particular elements of mystery.
In 2022 the opera was staged – with the consent of the heirs of the authors Martina Carpi and Andrea Jonasson – in a world premiere in the 76th season of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto “A. Belli” on 2, 3 and 4 September 2022 at the Teatro Caio Melisso in Spoleto in a transcription for instrumental chamber ensemble created by Matteo Giuliani and last scene created by Alessandro Solbiati . The direction was entrusted to Marco Angius, the direction was curated by Giorgio Bongiovanni, former student of Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro School , the stage design was curated by Andrea Stanisci, costumes by Clelia De Angelis and lights by Eva Bruno.
