ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Marcello Bernardini ( possibly Capua , 1730 or 1740 – after 1799 ) was an Italian composer and librettist .
Probably the son of the composer Rinaldo di Capua , nothing is known about his youth and musical training. In 1764 he arrived in Rome , where the following year he gave his first opera, the intermezzo La schiava astuta , and subsequently other farces, intermezzi and other vocal music. In 1767 he was active as a ringleader in the Campitelli district and from 1769 to 1784 he worked for the Nazarene College . From 1770 he began his librettist activity by writing librettos for other contemporary composers, such as Giovanni Battista Borghi , Pietro Terziani and Vicente Martín y Soler . In 1771 he composed his first oratorio, Il vello di Gideone, again in Rome . He later undertook some trips through Italy and Europe to represent his own works: after having been in Turin and Munich , in 1794 he went to Vienna and in 1795 to Poland , where he was Kapellmeister to Princess Marshal Lubomirska.
Although he wrote a large amount of composition, only 13 operas, two cantatas and a few librettos have survived. The operatic works of his that were most successful in his time were La donna di Spirito , Li tre Orferi and Le donne sbetiche .
