Karyağdı Hatun Opera is an opera work in 3 acts composed by Okan Demiriş . Nezihe Araz wrote the libretto .

The world premiere of the work, written in 1983, was held in Istanbul in 1985. It tells the story of a female saint named Karyağdı Hatun , whose tomb is located in Opera Square in Ankara . The story of a woman who got pregnant in August and loved to eat snow, which ended in death, symbolizes the intensity of the desire to become a mother.

The work was staged for the first time by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet. The world premiere was held on December 21, 1985. The work was directed by Feridun Altuna and approximately 26 sold-out performances.

Karyağdı Hatun was staged by Ankara State Opera and Ballet in the 2012-2013 season. The work was staged by Aytaç Manizade .

Yazgülü, the most beautiful girl in Ankara, marries Canali, a handsome young man, and becomes pregnant. Yazgul, who eats snow in the middle of August, dreams of snow while everyone is sweating profusely. As the fire inside her burns, so does her husband. One night, Yazgul begs God, ” Lord, give me snow .” As a result of this prayer, snow falls in Ankara in mid-August. Yazgul eats the snow by the handful until the sunrise. The next day they find her with fever on the snow of the garden. Yazgul cannot be saved; She is buried there. The woman, who became a saint in the eyes of the public, began to be known as Karyağdı Hatun. Rumor has it that snow still falls on her tomb every night.
