ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Especially for the Huygens Festival 2024, mezzo-soprano/theatre maker Roza Herwig and cellist Jobine Siekman are creating the performance JULIET. A new music theatre performance based on the romantic love story of Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare, told from Juliet’s perspective.
The touching story of Romeo & Juliet is undoubtedly the most famous love story of all time. These two young lovers became the symbol for all the loves that are not allowed to be. Shakespeare wrote the story of Romeo and Juliet in the 16th century, but to this day it remains topical and recognizable for many.
For this new show, a special combination of beautiful, varied pieces of music is made that fit the theme of the story. From Puccini, Purcell and Piazzolla to music from West Side Story and the Sound of Music. Several pieces of music have a direct link with the story of Romeo and Juliet, such as the music of Nino Rota from the eponymous film by Zeffirelli and music from Prokofiev ‘s eponymous ballet. Two singers play the leading roles, accompanied by a string quartet and piano. Together they take the audience along in this compelling love story.
JULIET is a performance full of passion, courage, love and hope. A story about two young people who, despite everything, choose each other and a better future, performed by seven passionate young top musicians.
