ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
About this performance/Nakatsu Kunihito (opera director)
♪Opera and puppet theater♪
It seems that performing opera with puppet theater is not uncommon in Western Europe. “Singing” to “speak” and “performing” while “singing”. If you think about it, the mysterious art of “opera” is probably compatible with “puppet theater” performed by non-humans. This time, the puppets moved while the human was singing to express their inner thoughts, and the human and puppet performed a love scene, creating a complex and profound expression of human and puppet intertwining.
♪Meeting Noriyuki Sawa♪
Originally from Otaru, Noriyuki Sawa pursued a career in puppetry and moved his base of operations to the Czech Republic. He now presents his work all over the world. He began teaching at FAT!S (Figure Art Theatre! Sapporo) in Sapporo, which made this performance possible. This was a very happy encounter for the Sapporo Chamber Opera, which is looking to expand the possibilities of opera.
♪What is FAT!S♪
A puppetry actor training workshop organized by the Sapporo City Education and Culture Hall. This group is attracted by Sawa’s art and is passionate about creating. In September of this year (2010), they successfully performed “The Restaurant of Many Orders” at Maruyama Zoo. They are aiming for even greater success with their performance next fall.
