ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

Giacomo Domenico Mario Antonio Pasquale Giuseppe Di Tritto ( Altamura , 2 April 1733 – Naples , 16 September 1824 ) was an Italian composer .

He began studying music at the Conservatory of Pietà dei Turchini in Naples, where his teachers included Nicola Fago , Girolamo Abos and Pasquale Cafaro .

In the same city in 1754 he began his career as an opera composer with the performance of the comic opera Le nozze contrastate at the Teatro dei Fiorentini . However, having been advised by maestro Cafaro not to continue his recently begun theatrical career, he abandoned the stage for about ten years. He then resumed composing operas in 1764 with the staging of Fedeltà in amore at the Teatro Nuovo . From that moment on, until 1810 , he wrote 53 operas.

On 26 December 1766 he directed Lucio Vero o Vologeso by Antonio Sacchini at the San Carlo theatre . In 1784 he managed to stage one of his operas, L’Artenice , at the San Carlo theatre with Giacomo David , after having received various refusals in the past from the King of Naples .

On 1 October 1785 he was appointed second extraordinary master at the Pietà dei Turchini and in 1793 he was promoted to second master . In October 1799 , at the end of the short-lived Neapolitan Republic , he was appointed first master of the Conservatory. In December 1806 , after the unification of all the Neapolitan conservatories, he entered the direction of the Real Collegio di Musica together with Giovanni Paisiello and Fedele Fenaroli . He retained the prestigious position until 1813 , when Nicola Antonio Zingarelli became the sole director of the Conservatory. However, he maintained the role of counterpoint teacher . During his teaching career, his students included: Vincenzo Bellini , Saverio Mercadante , Giacomo Meyerbeer , Pietro Raimondi and Gaspare Spontini . On 14 July 1816 he was appointed master of the royal palatine chapel and of the royal chamber with a salary of 100 ducats.

Although his operatic career ended in 1810 , he continued to write sacred compositions until his death.
