SYNOPSIS
A street in the city center.
On the ground floor of a building, a sorceress (speaking voice) has her shop selling esoteric items. The sorceress complains that people no longer believe in magic: no one is capable of letting themselves go with dreams, hopes and does not rely on that little bit of spells that perhaps are not very useful but, in any case, help to believe that things can change. Everyone is
in a hurry and even the people she sees coming out of the building do not even spare her a glance. She, on the other hand, has been observing them for a long time and they are all terribly unhappy, even though no one has ever asked for her help.
From afar she sees a young couple arriving: they, for example, are the perfect picture of unhappiness. They have wanted a child for a long time but are unable to have one.

THE LOST CHILD – Lorenzo Sorgi
A young man walks holding his wife tightly. She, crying, rests her head on his shoulder. They are returning from the hospital: she has also lost this child and will never be able to have children again. Her husband reassures her by saying that they will stay together forever and their love will be enough. But she knows how much he wanted to become a father. She is shocked, she thinks of his parents who wanted a grandchild so much. He tries to console her but his words are useless, the young woman tells him that it is better to leave because everything in that house will make her think of the child she lost, she will not be able to see the crib they had prepared, the little room, the dolls and the clothes. She will take her things and leave. They enter the door sadly knowing that their love cannot survive that pain.
The witch watches them disappear into the hall and would like to be able to help them but in that moment she does not know how to do it. And yet, in the world there are so many children left alone who are looking for a family… Why leave and not think instead of giving all their love to one of them?
The woman’s thoughts are interrupted by the arrival of two other tenants of the building who are arguing animatedly.

THE UNEXPECTED CHILD – Davide Sebartoli
The girl is begging her father to forgive her: she is pregnant and still a minor. Her father insults her, tells her that her life is ruined, now she will have to leave school and will never have a future. If only her mother had still been alive, all this would not have happened. The daughter tries to explain to her that for her it was love. At that party she had seen a boy and he was very handsome, he had courted her and she had believed his words… Then, however, when the following month she had told him she was expecting a child, he had disappeared. She begs her father to remember her youth and how he too had been in love but he is adamant: within a week he wants her out of the house, he screams at her while he climbs the stairs of the building, chased by his daughter who is still begging and who does not want to leave him alone in that big house. He stops when he hears her voice and thinks he is just a proud old man who cannot compromise his principles for the love of his daughter even if…
The witch observes them too: big problem, she thinks, a couple breaks up over a child who is not there and a father will remain alone forever, denying himself the joys of the birth of his grandchild, because of his closed and backward mentality. How will he manage alone now? And how will that little girl manage? She approaches the old doorman of the building to exchange some impressions with him who, deaf as a bell, does not hear anything, but is interrupted by the arrival of a woman from the East with a handkerchief on her head who is dragging a large suitcase.

THE FOREIGN WOMAN – Matteo Sarcinelli
The foreigner has arrived in Italy from a country at war. They advised her to look for work as a waitress but, not knowing who to turn to, she is going round all the doormen’s lodges to find out if there is a family that needs a maid, a nanny, a cook or a carer. The old doorman, however, is terribly deaf and every word of the foreigner (who speaks terrible Italian interspersed with Russian words) is misunderstood: she says she is looking for a job as a carer and he understands “elephant” and gets offended; she asks if anyone needs a woman by the hour and he insults her, replying that that is a serious building and women who do certain things for money don’t want them. The situation becomes complicated in a series of misunderstandings, until the explosive finale in which the old doorman rudely chases the foreigner away. The witch who witnessed the scene stops the woman: she had a great idea! Perhaps she didn’t read the fate of those people in the cards but she still found a way to help everyone. After all, what does a witch do if not help others find their happiness? Love potions, spells, incantations, this is what her ancestors have always done and now it’s her turn.
With great difficulty she asks the doorman to call the young couple on the first floor and also the father and daughter on the second floor. They should come down immediately, it’s important! The four reach the doorman out of breath and the sorceress takes the floor. First she addresses the two newlyweds: are they really sure they want to leave each other? Don’t they have enough love for a new creature, or rather… for two? She takes the daughter of the man on the second floor by the hand and asks the couple to take her in; in a few months she will have a baby and her father doesn’t want her in the house. But, who knows, seeing her in the building, maybe he might change his mind…
And he, gruff as he is, is he really sure he can only live in a house where everything reminds him of his dead wife? He can’t even boil an egg and that foreign lady seems to be very good at cooking.
Everything has gone well and the six with the sorceress sing a chorus: because the real magic is love.
