Italian-born American composer Matteo Neri has a versatile musical background, with experience in composing operas, classical concert music, as well as music for visual media. His compositions and arrangements have been performed by many ensembles and organizations, including Austin Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Momenta Quartet, Source Song Festival, Helix! New Music Ensemble, Rutgers Symphony Orchestra, Opera Theater Rutgers, and the tenor group FORTE, who were finalists on America’s Got Talent. Matteo’s Spanish-language grand opera ‘Escobar’ is currently being developed with librettist Alejandra Martinez; it will be premiered as a co-production with Florida Grand Opera, Opera San Jose, and Indiana University in the 2025-2026 season. Matteo’s one-act opera, ‘Our Lobotomist,’ a collaboration with librettist Edward Einhorn and Untitled Theater Company No. 61, was premiered at Yeoryia Studios (NYC) in February, 2019.

Matteo was a composer for Comma Music, a leading music house for commercials, TV, and film, from 2016 to 2018. His music can be heard in commercials and promos for brands such as McDonalds, Breathe Right Nasal Strips, Jim Beam, and Russell, as well as for institutions such as NYU. He worked in Los Angeles for Emmy Award winning composer Alex Wurman on a number of films and TV shows, including the Amazon series “The Patriot.” Matteo’s film credits include “How it Is,” “Table for Two,” and “The Kicking Yoda,” which received the award for Best Documentary Short at the Los Angeles Film Awards. He was also a participant in the ASCAP/NYU Film Scoring Workshop.

Matteo received a Masters in Music Composition from Temple University in 2020, a Masters in Scoring for Film/TV/Video Games from Berklee College of Music in 2014, and a Bachelor of Music in Theory/Composition from Westminster Choir College of Rider University in 2013. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Music Composition at Rutgers University, where he studies with Robert Aldridge.
