ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
Opera star Joyce DiDonato surrounded by blooming groves in a historic location: The atmospheric musical film was shot in Olympia, Greece, in spring 2024. To music from Gluck and Handel to Mahler and Ives, the music and plot reflect the relationship between man and nature. Also present: the Il Pomo d’Oro orchestra and three international children’s choirs.

The Garden of Eden: a biblical place, a symbol for the unity of man and nature, and the title of the lavishly filmed concert program that Joyce DiDonato presents with the ensemble Pomo d’Oro and several children’s choirs in and around Olympia, Greece, especially for the camera.

The filmic implementation of the performance concert, which has already been performed worldwide as a stage production, combines the timelessness of baroque and classical music with the emblematics of historical Olympia: As the birthplace of the Olympic Games, Olympia stands for values such as friendship, excellence and mutual respect.

The music includes classical music compositions that deal with the relationship between man and the world, and spans the baroque to the present, from Gluck and Handel to Mahler, Ives and Portman. The program follows the course of the day, from the morning mood through the night to the next dawn. The musical program features an allegorical play with the musicians as actors: Eden  with its star Joyce DiDonato offers high-quality entertainment with a serious twist, which can be understood as a call to human responsibility.
