The libretto of this chamber opera was derived from the diaries and other writings of Petr and Eva Ginz, children in Prague raised in the chaos and horror of the Nazi occupation of Prague. Both Petr and Eva ended up in the Terezin Concentration Camp. Petr, older by a few years, was brought from Terezin to Auschwitz by his 16th birthday and, was murdered there. Eva surived and is still alive.
