ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE
“A piece with music in five scenes” is how Hans Müller and Ralph Benatzky modestly called their last joint project. The premiere on April 4, 1936 in Vienna was a roaring success, and the reviews were raving. Nevertheless, the work by a Jewish librettist was withdrawn from the repertoire a few weeks after the premiere – and has never been seen on a theater stage again to this day. Hans Müller and Ralph Benatzky survived the period of Nazi rule in exile, but their works fell into oblivion, with the exception of the operetta “Im Weißen Rössl”, including “The Richest Man in the World”. But now the musical comedy, which is brimming with puns, situational comedy and musical ideas, is being performed again in Annaberg-Buchholz for the first time since 1936 – in the hope of winning it back for the theater repertoire.
