Throughout history, countless artists have been relegated or even ignored for the simple fact of being women. Duo Calliandra, in a historical rescue of female representation in chamber music, presented on Friday (21/5), at 8 pm, the recital Compositoras Brasileiras.
The concert, on Fridays Musicals at Casa Thomas Jefferson, was shown LIVE on YouTube by the binational center, which has the support of the US Embassy in holding its cultural events.
Formed by pianist Gisele Pires Mota and soprano Janette Dornellas, Duo Calliandra achieved success at the V Seminar on Brazilian Song at UFMG, in 2018, when it presented the concert “Composers of chamber music in the Hermelindo Castello Branco Collection”.
The recital of this video was conceived after extensive research by Gisele Pires Mota in the collection of six thousand scores of pianist Hermelindo Castello Branco. The musician/researcher, professor at the Department of Music at the University of Brasilia, cataloged 100 Brazilians who composed chamber songs. These composers, in most cases, did not publish their works simply because they were women.
The recital featured works for solo piano, songs and information about each composer. Each piece is a true jewel that deserves to be known, disclosed, interpreted and appreciated.
