ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS PERFORMANCE

ALL BACH CANTATAS. Season VII “300 Years Later”. Concerto Ninth

The final concert of the seventh season of the “All Bach Cantatas with Roman Nasonov” series is an important milestone for the project: the number of cantatas performed will reach 100, which means that half of the two hundred church cantatas by Bach have been performed! The Collegium Musicum ensemble under the direction of Oleg Romanenko continues the grandiose project, within the framework of which all Bach cantatas are performed on historical instruments in the space of the cathedral. The seventh season of the unique series is dedicated to the anniversary date – exactly 300 years ago, Johann Sebastian took up the post of cantor of the Church of St. Thomas in Leipzig, transforming the musical landscape of the city and, ultimately, the entire future history of music. The 2023/24 season will feature cantatas created in Bach’s first year in his new position. Comments by the leading expert on early sacred music, associate professor of the Moscow Conservatory Roman Nasonov help listeners understand the meaning of Bach’s masterpieces. The program includes: Cantata BWV 37 Wer da gläubet und getauft wird (“Truly, truly I say to you”) Cantata BWV 194 Höchsterwünschtes Freudenfest (“This is the long-awaited, most joyful holiday”) PERFORMERS Oleg Romanenko Roman Nasonov Daniel Salvador Collegium Musicum Ensemble
